WELLness meets Sustainability

Providing for both resiliency and WELLness, this synergistic and innovative design solution addresses LEED stormwater management requirements while providing a healthful outdoor teaching and collaboration space for the STEM Center at Cuyahoga Community College. When empty, a water basin/constructed wetland in front of the building’s east façade serves as a specimen classroom for the Earth Sciences as well as an easily accessed natural environment for all students at the College to gather and collaborate. After a storm event, as much as 11,000 cubic feet of on-site runoff can transform the basin into a beautiful, contemplative reflecting pool.
