Solar Shading and Building Integrated Photovoltaics

A high performance building with a projected energy use intensity (pEUI) of 73kBtu/sf/year, the exterior design comprises a terracotta rainscreen, metal panels and glass, and effectively integrates solar shading at all exposed sides of the building, with a roof-level canopy all around, terra cotta horizontal sunshades at the southern exposure, and horizontal micro-louver screens at the eastern exposure.
The central social hub displays building-integrated photovoltaics in the 100 ft long skylight, while the roof- level exterior canopy is designed to receive building-integrated photovoltaic glass panels atop three sides of the building. The combined energy generation of the BIPVs equals 13% of the energy required for building.
