Outdoor Classroom

Connecting to the Natural Environment

Ursinus College
Innovation and Discovery Center
Collegeville, Pennsylvania

In 2016, Ellenzweig designed a major addition to two existing Science facilities at Ursinus – Pfahler Hall and Thomas Hall. The new facility includes a variety of flexible learning spaces, teaching labs, research labs and student collaboration and study spaces. One of the goals of the project (and a goal of the WELLness process) was to challenge the way learning spaces are designed and re-thinking ways to integrate natural elements. This outdoor learning space provides enhanced access to nature without compromising the needs of a typical teaching environment.
