Michael Lauber, FAIA, who served as chief executive from 2004 through 2016 after succeeding founder Harry Ellenzweig, has stepped away from the presidency to focus on the firm’s project work and client relations. “I look forward to continuing my collaborations with clients and colleagues on a full-time basis, confidently entrusting the leadership of the firm with a talented successor,” said Lauber. “Bill is an architect who brings creativity, experience, enthusiasm, and energy to help guide Ellenzweig along the path of growth and discovery that began with the founding of the firm in 1965.”
Bill has dedicated his career to planning laboratory and office environments for a variety of life sciences, medical, and corporate institutions. He most recently served as Director of Life Sciences at the architectural firm Tsoi/Kobus & Associates; his past positions include principal and founder of Strategic Space, a workplace design and strategic planning consultancy; Head of Space Planning and Real Estate/Global Facilities Planning with Novartis Institutes for Biomedical Research; and Senior Director of Design at Fidelity Investments Real Estate Company. Bill holds a Master of Architecture from the University of Pennsylvania, and a Bachelor of Science in Civil and Environmental Engineering from the University of Wisconsin.

Rowan University’s Anthony Lowman, Ph.D., Dean of the Henry M. Rowan College of Engineering, joined Ellenzweig Principals Jim Blount and Dominick Roveto in presenting, “New facility models for integrating science and engineering,” at Tradeline’s College and University Science and Engineering Facilities 2017 Spring Conference, April 24-25, at the Hilton San Diego Mission Bay Resort.
At Tradeline’s 2017 Research Facilities Conference on April 27-28, also held at the Hilton San Diego Mission Bay Resort, Ellenzweig Principals Bill Holt and Jim Blount conducted a session entitled, “The new high standard for 21st century research: core facilities, new work environments, advanced building systems.”
Honor Award for Accessible Design
The Framingham State University Science Complex Addition and Renovation project won an Honor Award for Accessible Design administered jointly by the Boston Society of Architects and the Massachusetts Access Board. The project achieved universal access to all facilities in the buildings comprising the Science Complex, including renovation of the entries to Hemenway Hall and the Annex and the reconfiguration of steeply sloping courtyard areas.
