Renovations transform 1960s interior for University of Massachusetts Amherst Math Department
Visual transparency and daylight, crisp geometries, and plenty of chalkboards transform this once dark, 1960’s Chemistry lab interior into a welcoming and flexible space for collaborative teaching and learning among Mathematics and Statistics students and faculty in the Lederle Graduate Research Center at the University of Massachusetts Amherst.
The program includes meeting, discussion and collaboration spaces, general classroom and colloquium spaces, faculty and graduate student offices, hoteling space, an undergraduate lounge, a kitchenette and a departmental lounge.
The goals of the renovation included modernizing the space for ADA and improving the 50-year-old infrastructure of the four upper floors while connecting into previous system upgrades through the lower 12 floors.
