Daylighting

Orientation and Form

The University of Mississippi
STEM Building

A major social hub designed to harness ample amounts of daylight, organizes the building to foster collegiality and interaction. Components around the hub consist of two parallel teaching lab blocks joined by pods of student study spaces, classrooms, and instructor offices. The space is designed to minimize heat gain by orienting large light monitors northward, and by carefully manipulating light scoop forms to reflect natural light to the base of the atrium. The hub will have additional uses such as science poster sessions, and outreach functions.
