Coastal Research Building Completed for UMass Dartmouth
Ellenzweig recently celebrated with the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth the opening of the new East Research Building in New Bedford, Massachusetts. The building serves the School for Marine Science and Technology (SMAST) as well as the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Division of Marine Fisheries. The project was administered by the University of Massachusetts Building Authority.
The new building features a major seawater research laboratory, a supercomputer server cluster for climate and oceanographic modeling, wet and computational teaching laboratories, and a 100-seat divisible classroom with video-conferencing capabilities.
Sustainability and resiliency planning informed the new building design at its coastal location, including elevated electrical and mechanical systems, and a building envelope designed for 120 mph sustained winds.
