Northeast Ohio Medical University Campus Master Plan

Rootstown, Ohio | 120 acres | 2010

Northeast Ohio Medical University (NEOMED) is a community-based, public institution that provides interprofessional training for medical and pharmacy students in partnership with other six other Ohio universities and more than 150 clinical facilities. Ellenzweig’s collaboration with NEOMED began with a multi-phased project to expand and update the research and educational facilities of the campus.

During the programming phase of work, NEOMED requested that the planning team undertake a Master Planning study to locate the new research and graduate educational facility and the Comparative Medicine Unit expansion in the context of 25-year campus growth. The team worked with NEOMED to develop a list of probable projects that would occur within this time frame, serving as the basis of the campus growth scenario.  The planning effort included development and refinement of build-out options and associated phasing, as well as illustrations of the campus at the conclusion of the first development phase and after 25 years of growth.

Ellenzweig continued working with NEOMED to design the new Research and Graduate Education Building, expansion of the Comparative Medicine Unit, a connecting bridge to the new research building, and renovation of existing laboratory facilities to create the REDIzone (Research, Entrepreneurship, Discovery, and Innovation)—an innovative biomedical research incubator.
