Daylighting Analysis

Quantifying and Optimizing Natural Light

We are committed to exploring and optimizing opportunities for natural daylighting starting at the earliest design phases of our projects. Our BIM modeling tools provide quantitative and qualitative data that permit us to evaluate building orientation and facade assemblies to optimize daylight penetration and mitigate glare. These improvements can enhance occupant well-being, reduce the need for artificial lighting, and provide energy-saving opportunities throughout the calendar year.

Shown here is a series of daylighting studies for our project for SUNY’s College of Environmental Science and Forestry, undertaken to understand the benefits of daylighting for energy use and occupant comfort. These studies range from overall analysis of building orientation to the evaluation of light levels for occupants at working height.
